Kindred Organic White Quinoa 500g
Quinoa (pronounced keen-wá) is a grain-like seed. It was already cultivated over 5000 years ago in the Andean region of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile. The Quinoa grain comes closer to meeting the genuine protein requirements of the human body than either cows milk or soybeans. It is high in the amino acid lysine, which is lacking in most common cereals. Quinoa is not a true cereal grain it can be eaten by people who suffer from cereal grain allergies. Cooking quinoa is easy! simply add 1cup quinoa to 2 cups water to a pan. Bring to boil and let simmer for 10 minutes until water has disappeared. Be careful not to cook for too long or at too high temperature because the quinoa can be overcooked very easily which can cause it to burst.
The Damen family has been using organic farming methods to grow healthy alternative grains and seeds for more than a decade in the prime agricultural region of North-West Tasmania. The rich fertile red soil, abundance of water and seasonal sunshine allows them to grow nutrient-rich whole foods as they were grown for thousands of years. Their journey to become certified organic began with a composting system and grew over the years until they achieved 100% certified organic status. Kindred Organics is the first organic quinoa grower in Australia, and they also grow hemp, spelt, buckwheat, oats and grassfed beef. Their products are grown, stored, processed and packed on their family farm in Kindred, Tasmania.
